Tell us a bit about Luminary.
We have a strong focus on people and sustainability. We're carbon neutral, have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the past six years, and we actively support a diverse range of charities.
Why did you want to become a Certified B Corporation?
We felt that being a B Corp aligned with the values and practices we already upheld, and supported our company mission ‘to make digital bright and the human experience brighter’. To a large degree, it was a way of validating the path we were already on.
What makes Luminary unique as a business? Tell us some of the areas where you have the biggest impact, or some of the little changes you've made to make a difference.
We have been carbon neutral since July 2019. We offset our carbon footprint through the planting of trees in the Reforestation Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Project in Western Australia.
We have also hosted tree planting days for our Melbourne and Bali teams.
We have a strong sustainability program within our offices too. In recent years we have eliminated plastic bottles and takeaway cups in our office, replacing them with reusable aluminium bottles and keep cups. We also recycle our coffee grounds through Reground and use ethical suppliers, such as fellow B Corps 23 Degrees and Who Gives A Crap.
We put a huge emphasis on ensuring the wellbeing of our team members, including providing a coach who provides personal and professional mentoring, and extremely flexible working options (in fact, two out of three of our directors predominantly work remotely!). We are proud to have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the past six years.
We work with a number of charity and NFP clients and we also support a wide range of charity initiatives, including the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea and Food for Families.
For the past two years, we have also sponsored the Victorian Young Achiever Awards through the Luminary Tech Visionary Award, as we believe that when you give young people opportunities it creates innovation and breaks down barriers.
Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?
