Mastered Marketing is a Certified B Corporation

In a highly connected, online world, digital marketing can make or break a business. That's why the team at Mastered Marketing want to put their skills to good use: helping 'socially conscious' companies succeed by growing revenue and brand awareness with proven marketing strategies.

We asked Mastered Marketing about their journey to B Corp certification and what makes their business a force for good.

The Mastered Marketing team

Why did you want to certify as a B Corp?

We have always been passionate about helping the planet. We were already 1% For The Planet members and our executives are both vegans, but we wanted to do even more. Once we learned about Certified B Corporations we immediately wanted to get involved, so we could also start using our business for good!

It has really helped us become accountable and improve in areas we previously hadn't considered.

What makes Mastered Marketing unique as a business?

We believe how you make your money is more important than how much you make. Don’t get us wrong — money matters and without it, your business is dead in the water. But we believe money is a tool, not a goal. We love to support people who have a mission that makes a positive impact on the world and give them the tools to succeed online.

It's also very important that we hold ourselves accountable and don't compromise our values for profit. We do not work with any industries we see as unethical (such as tobacco, gambling, or fossil fuels) and have turned down business if it doesn't align with our beliefs.

We also donate 10% of all our profits to charities that fight for social and environmental justice, a big commitment that many businesses don't consider.

B Corps want to help transform our economy into one that is inclusive, sustainable, and regenerative. What business practice do you want to see become the norm?

There are a variety of things, such as treating your employees fairly, increasing cultural diversity, and having women in leadership, but a big one for us is being more charitable.

We truly believe that every business should have a strong focus on giving back — ACTUALLY giving back, not just loosely 'supporting' by sharing a post on Instagram or giving a few hundred dollars a year.

Was there a B Corp that inspired you to certify, or one that you look to for inspiration?

One of our previous clients is a B Corp hairdresser (Sessions Salon) and they told us all about it. We thought it was amazing and wanted to get involved! They recycle 97% of their waste, plant a tree for every single client, and more.

Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?

To be honest... it was harder than we expected! Originally we thought that because we're an online business it would be easy, since we have a small environmental impact by default. But it was much more extensive than we realised — in a REALLY good way.

We don't really have tips other than to not give up, and really do your best to improve. You may discover there are areas that you aren't excelling at yet and that's okay! Just keep going.
