Milieu is now a Certified B Corporation

True to its namesake, Milieu takes an intelligent approach to urban development, creating unique residential and mixed-use projects informed by their surrounds, and designed to accommodate the rigors and routines of contemporary life. Driven by a commitment to strong architectural outcomes and progressive urban design, Milieu specialise in crafting medium scale developments within Melbourne’s most attractive inner-city enclaves.

Why did you want to become a Certified B Corporation?

B Corp certification is a proof-point of our company ethos and helps to create systems and processes to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, balancing profit and purpose. Homebuyers within Melbourne's community are mimicking these ambitions when searching for property and there is a clear demand for a more holistic approach to the design and construction of new apartment buildings, with a focus on community and sustainability.

What makes Milieu unique as a business? Tell us some of the areas where you have the biggest impact, or some of the little changes you've made to make a difference.

The Milieu team will embody the ethos of business as a force for good as we work alongside our collaborators to create homes and places that are sensitive to their surrounds. As creative developers, the work we do has the greatest impact on the built environment which includes the environment, local communities and the local economy. We will be concentrating on workplace practices, business protocols and sustainability both within the office and with our projects. Sustainability for us is the triple bottom as we ensure community, environmental and financial outcomes are considered through the creative process.

Do you have any tips for aspiring B Corps about the certification process?

It's a long and arduous process to formalise (and sometimes change) behaviour in and for the workplace... the earlier you can start the better!
